FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- For nearly a decade now American service members have been deployed in two wars. That can often make the family finances dicey. But the City of Fresno pitched in early with a plan to help families of its employees to maintain the same income while their loved one was overseas. We met up with one of those soldiers recently.
Since 1992 volunteers have been placing evergreen wreaths with red bows at Arlington National Cemetery. Each year they are donated by Worchester Wreath Company of Harrington Maine. And each year the Arlington staff designates a new location. The sight of this somber effort during this happiest of seasons will no doubt evoke different feelings from each of us but it is an abiding reverence to those lost in the service to our country that I'll remember.
The Di Cicco name is synonymous with good food and family in Fresno and soon it could be associated with politics. Pat Di Cicco has announced his candidacy for Fresno City Council District #2. This district covers North West Fresno where Di Cicco was born and raised and still lives. He graduated from San Joaquin Memorial High School and Fresno State with a degree in Business Administration. Di Cicco started working in his family's restaurant business when he was 12 years old and continues today working in the food industry. He's also been very involved with various organizations from Leadership Fresno... to the Fresno Chamber of Commerce... to Catholic Charities of Central California.
Fresno City Councilman Larry Westerlund is joining a growing list of local Republicans who were thinking about running for Congress, but have decided against it. Westerlund tells me... he will not seek the Republican nomination in the new 16th Congressional District. The second term Councilman ran unsuccessfully for the 19th Congressional District seat last year. He was one of four Republicans hoping to succeed retiring Congressman George Radanovich. State Senator Jeff Denham won the "bare-knuckle" primary against Westerlund, Jim Patterson, and Richard Pombo and eventually cruised to victory in the General Election.
