The Di Cicco name is synonymous with good food and family in Fresno and soon it could be associated with politics. Pat Di Cicco has announced his candidacy for Fresno City Council District #2. This district covers North West Fresno where Di Cicco was born and raised and still lives. He graduated from San Joaquin Memorial High School and Fresno State with a degree in Business Administration. Di Cicco started working in his family's restaurant business when he was 12 years old and continues today working in the food industry. He's also been very involved with various organizations from Leadership Fresno... to the Fresno Chamber of Commerce... to Catholic Charities of Central California.
Di Cicco believes his lifelong residence in Fresno gives him an understanding of the issues facing the city. He released this statement regarding his candidacy: "After reflecting on my longtime residency of District 2, I have come to the conclusion that I have a thorough knowledge of the issues specific to the district and will strive to improve the quality of life in this district and Fresno. My goal is to work together with city leaders to look at several issues affecting this district and the city. My focus will be ensuring there is adequate funding to keep streets and neighborhoods safe, and improving and expanding the district's infrastructure. I will work with the city's Planning Department to streamline the process for business owners seeking to expand housing and job opportunities in the district."
The District 2 seat is open with no incumbent running. The current Councilman, Andreas Borgeas, is serving his first term, but is running for Fresno County Supervisor in County District #2. Di Cicco won't be the only candidate for the council seat. Several others are reportedly considering a run, but the Fresno Bee has reported that Fresno Medical Administrator Sue Saigal will also seek the District 2 seat. You may remember her when she challenged Mayor Alan Autry during his run for a second term... which he easily won.
