After only a few months in office, Fresno Assemblyman Henry T. Perea is finding out how difficult the job can be. Governor Brown and State Lawmakers are in the middle of an historic budget battle. After whittling down a massive $26.6 billion budget deficit to nearly half… the Governor this week declared budget talks with Republicans over, dead, kaput. Brown planned on a special election in June… hoping voters would renew temporary sales, vehicle, and income taxes to help close the budget gap. He wanted GOP lawmakers to get on board his election train, but Republicans presented a list of 53 demands in exchange for their support. The Governor said it was too much. For now, we have a stalemate at the State Capitol with many, many people and programs in limbo.
