How appropriate that the General Election is only two days after Halloween. Those countless political ads have been trying to scare us to death for months with voice-overs by Darth Vader sound-a-likes, pictures of candidates that resemble ghouls and bogeymen, and apocalyptic scenarios if we don’t vote how they want. You have plenty of reasons to pull your bed blankets over your head as you fill out your mail-in ballot, but walk out in the daylight to put it in the mail.
With Election Day fast approaching, here’s a few more political goodies for your trick-or-treat bag.
The final Field Poll before Election Day shows Jerry Brown with a ten point lead over rival Meg Whitman… 49% to 39%. Whitman leads Brown here in the Central Valley, but it’s closer than you might think… 44% to 41%.
The biggest names in politics must be singing that old song a great deal lately. With less than two weeks before the General Election, President Barack Obama, Vice-President Joe Biden, First Lady Michelle Obama, former President Bill Clinton, Senator John McCain, and his former running mate, Sarah Palin, and House GOP leader, John Boehner, have visited or will visit the Golden State to campaign for various candidates. Why? Well, don’t look now, but “Big, Blue” California is now a battleground state in this upcoming election.
Recently my cluttered inbox held a hidden jewel amid the varied emails for news story suggestions to consider. It arrived with a tag that said it had been verified by SNOPE, the online fact checking, verification tool for serial emails.
Just to be sure that was true, I ‘snoped’ it myself. Then I read it. I was glad I did.
It takes place in a high school classroom in Little Rock, Arkansas where Martha Cothren teaches.
The candidates, campaigns, pundits, and media put a great deal of importance on the weekend debate between Republican Meg Whitman and Democrat Jerry Brown. Their second showdown at Fresno State now has a place in California political history as the first debate broadcast in Spanish between two gubernatorial candidates. Of course, the debate earned added significance following news of Whitman’s hiring and firing of an undocumented housekeeper.
If there’s a political “bounce” from this debate, it goes to Jerry Brown. Political Analyst Tony Capozzi told Action News Anchor Graciela Moreno, he believes the debate is so far the biggest factor in this election. Capozzi adds “Jerry Brown didn’t want to do this debate. For the life of me, I have no idea why not … because this is the best thing that has happened to his campaign.”

His proud Mom, Gloria Brown of Madera, sent us the news.
